How to Store Your Emirates ID Digitally
Keeping your Emirates ID, passport and residence visa details safe and to hand in the UAE — official digital copies, renewal reminders, and sharing copies without losing control of them.

In the UAE your Emirates ID is asked for almost everywhere — at the bank, the hospital, a new SIM card, a tenancy contract or a job. Residents also need their passport and residence visa details close at hand. Here's how to keep all three safe, current and easy to produce.
Why your Emirates ID copy needs care
Emirates ID copies are handed out so often that they end up in dozens of inboxes, chat groups and office files. A copy alongside your passport page gives someone most of what they need to impersonate you for a SIM card, a rental or a loan application. Fewer loose copies means less risk.
Step 1: Use the official digital versions
The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs & Port Security (ICP) offers a digital Emirates ID in its UAE ICP app, and UAE PASS, the national digital identity, lets you hold and share official documents with many government and private services. Where a service accepts these, use them instead of a photocopy.
Step 2: Keep your own secure copies too
Not everyone accepts the official apps, and you'll still want copies of documents they don't cover. Keep scans of the front and back of your Emirates ID, your passport photo page, your residence visa details, and attested certificates you needed for your visa or job.
Storing them in IDBANKQR.COM
- Log in and open Add New ID.
- Set Country to United Arab Emirates (usually filled in from your location).
- Pick Emirates ID from the document list. The UAE list also has UAE Residence Visa, UAE Driving Licence, Labour Card, Vehicle Registration (Mulkiya), Tenancy Contract (Ejari) and attested certificates.
- Upload both sides — use Add File afterwards for the back — or scan both into one PDF with Scan Document.
- Enter the Expiry Date so you get reminders before it runs out.
If you also keep documents from home — an Aadhaar or PAN card, say — save them with that country selected. My Documents can then show your UAE documents and your home-country documents separately.
Step 3: Don't let it expire
For residents, the Emirates ID is renewed with your residence visa, and fines can apply when renewal is late. Check the current rules with ICP (or GDRFA in Dubai) or your employer's PRO, and add the expiry date to every copy you store — IDBANKQR emails you 30, 7 and 1 day before it.
Step 4: Share copies the safe way
- Share with a QR code that expires instead of sending the image over chat.
- Choose View only when someone just needs to check it.
- On a paper copy, write the purpose and date across it and sign over the writing.
Quick checklist
- Use the UAE ICP app or UAE PASS where a service accepts them.
- Keep encrypted scans of your Emirates ID (both sides), passport and visa.
- Store expiry dates and renew on time.
- Share with expiring, view-only access, not chat attachments.
